Don't Start Small. 4 Tips to Help You Slay It as a Startup

  1. Don’t pinch pennies when you just borrowed hundreds of thousands
  2. You may need to first go to the bank to one day soon make bank
  3. Don’t hide in the back corner of a birth center
  4. Don’t go at it all alone

After spending 7+ years of your life and, for most, borrowing over $200K to get your education and degree πŸŽ“ in the most kick-ass health care field ever… why would you THEN pull back and pinch pennies?

Every single one of the thousands of books that teach you how to be successful rightfully and accurately will inform you that Chapter 1 starts with your mindset πŸ’ͺand perspective. The #1 thing it takes to be successful for each and every one of us is a strong foundation of mental fortitude and a forward-moving-no-matter-what attitude.

If, at the start, the only thing you’re focused on is saving and budgeting, then get used to it… because you’re setting yourself up for a career and life full of it.

For every chiropractor I know who started small and then got big (there are a few), I know 50 more who started small and stayed small.

Next up, separate and “segment” your borrowing. It costs me $200K to get my education and have the clinical training and opportunity to be a chiropractor, and then I borrowed another $125K (and bought a $400K building because I’m extra IN) for the opportunity to be in business.

So yep, that’s a grand total of $725K INVESTED in my future, and the future of the kids + families in my community… and my kids and family as well. 😳🀯

When you start a practice, you live two separate work lives from there on out – clinician and business owner.

They absolutely intersect and weave together every day, but it is absolutely possible to separate things mentally, structurally, and financially. And starting out by treating your practice like an actual business instead of a small side hustle is the best place to start.

Hit up the bank 🏦, get some funding πŸ’°, and hit the ground running, not hiding!

Speaking of hiding, if you want to see kids + families, then it’s crucial you look like a professional.

The rent-a-room and “start super small” advice I see running rampant in our profession drives me crazy. I totally get it for a legit forced short season while you wait for your bank funding and badass office build-out to get finished, but as an actual starting-out strategy… again, the vast majority of the time, what happens is this – start small, stay small.

And then to really, actually kick ass right out of the gates as a startup – you need a wingman or wing woman! Yep, we started with a full-time, fully paid, experienced Chiropractic Assistant (CA) πŸ™‹and it’s a huge reason we grew so fast and so smoothly!

That woman was worth her weight in gold, as she set up all of our back office systems, handled all scheduling, every bit of the financials (I’ve never done a Financial ROF in my life, nor will I ever), and even helped me out with getting our website up and running and some professional networking and relationship building in those early years!

And finally, we should’ve started here – hire a proven, still-slaying-it mentor and guide and follow their blueprint and strategic plan to the T. You don’t know what you don’t know, but they do!

A caring, passionate, giving mentor who can turn to you and authentically say the following is worth their weight in gold – “Been there, done that, here’s how.”

And those last two words are the most crucial – here’s how

The reason our PX startups are absolutely crushing it right out of the gates is because we don’t just fill them with passion and inspiration, but we most importantly provide them with practical, actionable training.

They’ve got Video πŸ’» Courses, Playbooks πŸ“˜, and PDFs πŸ““that walk them through every step of the process bit-by-bit so that they KNOW exactly what it takes to get the job done, succeed, and make a massive impact on their communities!

Slaying it as a Startup is more than possible, it’s your true potential!

I know Instagram and Facebook Groups are full of more fearful, hesitant “start small” chiros setting up portable tables in living rooms or the back of small buses, going mobile, staying small, and so forth… but that is NOT the future I see for this profession.

We know firsthand that right NOW, moms + dads everywhere WANT our care and what we offer like never before! But we also know they want it done in a first-class, professional setting and structure… not in the back of a van down by the river!

Start Big, Go Big. Stay Big!

Sincerely,

Dr. Tony Ebel + Team PX
